The Story of the Unique Gem from Diamond to Diamond, Transformation of Nothing into Everything

The Story of Diamond,

Have you ever thought about what you call 'value'? No, I'm not talking about someone you love valuing you. I'm talking about something that means nothing to you suddenly becoming valuable. Have you ever thought about this in detail before?

For example, take an item that you no longer need and were planning to throw away. I'm sure that shortly after you completely discarded it and threw it away, you suddenly needed it more than ever, right?

I agree that it is a very interesting situation, but I think the main interesting thing here is not Murphy's laws, but the relationship of the concept of 'value' with need.

About 4 thousand years ago, some smart people needed diamonds. Not for making necklaces, earrings, beads from it. They needed diamonds to shape the beads they would use as ornaments. More precisely, they realized that this new mineral they discovered was incredibly hard, and they began to use the hardness of diamonds to shape ornaments.

This was the first reason that made diamonds valuable to us. In short, diamond was very hard and the fact that it was such a hard metal was valuable to us.

If you pay attention, I promised you the story of the diamond, but I always talk about the diamond. The diamond's transformation into a diamond happened when the diamond stepped into the modern era. In other words, some smart people realized that it was a much more valuable metal than just a hard tool to be used to shape things, and they shaped the diamond, cut it in the most appropriate way, and decorated their fingers with its shine.

The Modern Era of Diamond, De Beers

In the 1860s, with the opening of the first large-scale diamond mine in Kimberley, South Africa, the first lines of the modern story of diamonds began to be written. They found the first diamond in that area on the banks of the Orange River.

Later, the real story of this special gem that all women admire today started with the discovery of a diamond ore weighing 8350 Carats (Approximately 11670 Grams) in the Vooruitzigt farm of the De Beers brothers. The discovery of such large diamonds suddenly turned the focus of the miners here and everyone started looking for diamonds.

De Beers Kimberley Mine Diamond Pit

Until 1914, more than 50 thousand miners found over 2722 kilos of diamond ore in the region.

De Beers is the most established company, still controlling approximately 70% of the world's diamond mines since the 1860s. The modern story of the diamond, which started with De Beers, still continues today, with manufacturers adding new lines to this story.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of lovers still wear this unique gem, that is, the diamond they have carved and shaped from diamond, on their fingers to make their love shine.
